Lies vs Facts

How far do you think people can go to rise to power?

How far do you think people would go to hide their crimes?

How long do you think people can live in ignorance and delusion?

–66 years?…I don’t think they had enough yet.

2 days ago, the newspaper had this article. The lies in it made me furious.

This is the article.

The article

The underlined sentences are the twisted lies spoken by Daniel Camron, ambassador of Israel to India.

This is my response to that article, exactly as I had mailed the newspaper.

Daniel Carmon in the article -” Goal is to neutralise terror tunnels”, that you published shamelessly on August 1, makes claims that are nothing more than blatant lies. They are misleading. While people are entitled to their opinions, it is not so when it comes to facts.

1.” Israel unilaterally left Gaza in 2005..”

–Yes, but it did so having built a huge wall around it to seal it off from the world. The withdrawal did not free Gaza. It turned it into the world’s biggest open air prison. The people of Gaza are trapped between Israel, Egypt and the sea with no control of their borders, airspace, imports, exports, water, medical, fuel or energy supply and nowhere to run to.

2.”Hamas unlawfully rules…”

–Firstly, Hamas won the 2006 Palestinian Legislative Council elections . What is unlawful about it?

It is unlawful that 700,00 Palestinians had to be uprooted in 1948 to make the Israeli state. It is unlawful that the Palestinians have become refugees in their own land.

Secondly, Hamas rules?

Gaza has eight over-crowded, under-resourced refugee camps. Its economy is at a stand-still, unemployment is sky high, half of its children are malnourished and people are suffering from disease without access to adequate medical care. They depend on Israel for supplies to power, their water and basic sanitation. Everyone who examines the control Israel exerts on Palestine will understand the Palestinians are in no position to threaten Israel’s existence. It can manage a resistance at best and Hamas has no sovereignty that is worth calling them a government or a ruling authority.

3.”Hamas is a terrorist organization…”

–Let us define terrorism first. Any half-decent definition means we can also define USA and Israel as terrorists states. Hamas was born out of principled resistance. It doesn’t hide it. It doesn’t apologise for it. There are many other resistance groups in occupied Palestine firing rockets including Islamic Jihad. Israel knows full well it is not fighting Hamas alone; it is fighting a resistance. The rockets are a response to Israel’s continuing oppression and 66 years of settler-colonialism. Why should Palestine be denied the right to resist?

4.”After 3 weeks of Israeli restraint, when Hamas further escalated the intensity…..Israel had no choice but to respond as any country would”

–In the past weeks, IDF murdered 1567 Palestinians, injured 8760 and partially or completely destroyed 9245 homes. This is called restraint??

Also let me ask this: would any country on Earth tolerate the theft of their land, murder of their families, terrorism and regular ‘incursions’ (i.e. invasion) from an occupying force, their daily humiliation and brutalization from an apartheid state that controls their lives, kidnaps their children, tortures prisoners with impunity, starves and impoverishes them, destroys their olive groves and livelihoods, denies them medical treatment, restricts their movement? Would you? Clearly not.

5.”Hamas commits a double war crime…”

–Does Israel really care about International Law? It has broken 66 UN resolutions so far. It targets civilians. Gaza’s 83 UNRWA shelters are currently holding over 160,000 displaced people. Isn’t that aiming indiscriminately at civilians. It builds more settlements, deliberately infects prisoners before release, tortures children, uses artillery shells with white phosphorous and flechette shells to hit residential area in Gaza. If years to oppression can be justified as “War on Terror” then even retaliation and defence can be termed as “war crime” in this world.

6.”On the other hand it does so out of inhabited areas, hospitals…using the civilians as human shields”

–Richard Seymous pointed out the sickening hypocrisy:

” They hid at the El-Wafa hospital. They hid at the Al-Aqsa hospital. They hid at the beach, where children played football. They hid at the yard of 75-year-old Muhammad Hamad. They hid among the residential quarters of Shujaya. They hid in the neighbourhoods of Zaytoun and Toffah. They hid in Rafah and Khan Younis. They hid in the home of the Qassan family. They hid in the home of the poet, Othman Hussein. They hid in the village of Khuzaa. They hid in the thousands of houses damaged or destroyed. They hid in 84 schools and 23 medical facilities. They hid in a cafe, where Gazans were watching the World Cup. They hid in the ambulances trying to retrieve the injured. They hid themselves in 24 corpses, buried under rubble. They hid themselves in a young woman in pink household slippers, sprawled on the pavement, taken down while fleeing. They hid themselves in two brothers, eight and four, lying in the intensive burn care unit in Al-Shifa. They hid themselves in the little boy whose parts were carried away by his father in a plastic shopping bag. They hid themselves in the “incomparable chaos of bodies” arriving at Gaza hospitals. They hid themselves in an elderly woman, lying in a pool of blood on a stone floor. Hamas, they tell us, is cowardly and cynical”

Besides there hasn’t been any proof of any weapons being found where the airstrikes took place.

7.”Israel is doing utmost to protect the uninvolved citizens in Gaza…”

— Phoning a hospital to promise to bomb them later that day and order staff to evacuate is of no use if those patients are not capable of leaving and have nowhere else to go but into the streets were snipers can hit them or other buildings where they’ll be buried under the rubble from airstrikes. The same goes for phoning a home with a warning or dropping leaflets. Israel also uses a controversial tactic called roof knocking where a dummy bomb hits a home scant minutes or seconds before a real bomb lands. The warning is therefore actually a tactic of modern psychological warfare. It is designed to cause mass panic and fear to break the will of innocent civilians.

8.”Israel has agreed to all six ceasefires..”

— But it never observes one. For instance, August 1 was to mark a 72 hours ceasefire. Yet 8 minutes into the ceasefire, Israel bombed the Al-Salam area killing 160 civilians. It has violated such countless ceasefires in the 7 decades of it’s occupation.

Sushma Swaraj says both countries are our friends.

Why are we friends with an aggressor? Why should we have any ties with this barbaric state that is conducting a military massacre of Palestinians?

Isn’t our increasing trade with them arming them indirectly?

This is not a war. It’s a genocide. And we supporting it by being diplomatic.

It didn’t make any sense to me. The purpose was lost. I want people to know the facts. I am not saying just listen to the Gazan point of view .listen to both sides and decide for yourself instead of having some half-baked theories and false stories being dictated to you and you blindly believe them.

Because believe it or not is the time to take a stand. Now more than ever.

Now when their crimes have annihilated an entire nation.

Now when 66 years of injustice is enough.

  1. Reading your article gave me familiar feeling of helplessness, and powerlessness. No doubt your words stir up every bit of human in my but the corrupted me soothes itself in my daily muse.
Very well written i wish things change but like a famous poet said
Taqdeer Ke Qazi Ka Ye Fatwa Hai Azal Se
    Hai Jurm-e-Zaeefi Ki Saza Marg-e-Mafajat!
Tell me if your not conversant with urdu so i can explain the depth of what the poet says. And apologies for an extremely lengthy comment.

    1. I like “extremely” lengthy comments…so no worries! And thank you for commenting.

I dont have much urdu vocabulary. Here, i dont know what Azal, Zaeefi and Mafajat mean. So yes, please do explain.

      1. Ok glad to help, azal is eternal , zaeefi is old age/weakness , mafajat is sudden . Thereby meaning the eternal decision maker has decreed that crime of being week shall be punishable in death. NOW U CAN GO DEEP INTO IT.but if I’ve not read Iqbal its a bit difficult to grasp.

    1. Indeed he is right in believing so. What else would weakness lead to if not death.
And what a way to express that!
There are some good poems that take you into the realm of silence where the answers are not hidden and everything speaks up to reveal itself. Surely you must know… for your poems have the same effect.

And now even though the helplessness remains somehow it doesnt hurt so much.

  2. At least lying on behalf of his country is Carmon’s job. That’s practically the definition of ‘ambassador’.

Here in Australia we get journalists, commentators and letter writers lining up to lie about Israel in the media, trying to deny, excuse or justify it’s crimes.

I’ve even heard a senior broadcaster in the ABC’s religion department refer on air to “The West Bank of Israel, now occupied by Palestinians“, reversing not only the truth of who is illegally occupying the West Bank, but even the facts of geography (the West Bank of the Jordan River is to the east of Israel’s legal borders).

    1. Yup..dey r not at all reliable..the stangest one I came was this and funny too..

“Breaking news- Israeli soldier twists his ankle in Gaza..”
      And this was BBC…
